While we give away our creative power to the artist, designer Robert van Embricqs manages to develop a unique design approach that can trigger our playful mind again. The question that remains ever present during his research: "to what degree is the object you're creating capable of dictating its own design?". By sharing some secrets behind his well known creations, he tries to give a proper answer to this question. ** Robert is an award winning designer including the prestigious red dot design awards. His work has been published from the US to Europe to China in GQ, Wired and many others. After his graduation at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Art, Robert's 'Rising Chair' concept was so well-received worldwide that he decided to put this piece into production. In addition, he created other similar pieces of furniture and outdoor constructions with the main purpose to make a perfect combination between functionality and art. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
